Holy Rosary, Pujehun
Holy Rosary Girls Secondary School, Pujehun

Pujehun is south east of Freetown, a long way by road, and approx 70km from Bo.

Established in 1965 by the Catholic Mission in Sierra Leone,Holy Rosary is a school of 600 students and 23 teachers, most of whom are university educated.  What makes it unusual in Sierra Leone is that it is a school for girls.

The school has 6 buildings, 2 of which serve as dormitories for the boarders, 3 buildings for classrooms and one is used for the general science laboratory.

One of the classrooms has been used as a library.  There is no electricity, and the students study with candlelight at night.  There is no running water, and water is carried by students from a single well.

The principal of this school has taught at Holy Rosary for more than 15 years and she is a person of vision.  The students are learning to think critically, to express themselves, and they are making great progress.
Kanga Schools has partnered with Holy Rosary to construct a library building:  the school community has provided the labour to make mud bricks - Kanga has given financial aid for the cement rendering, roofing, and frames.

A donor provided microscopes and another donor funded their request for equipment for a science laboratory and some sewing machines.  Additional funds were made available to replace 25 mattresses for the boarders.
To date, this school has received 16 computers loaded with software, soccer balls, and more than 12,000 books for the new library - as well as the science equipment, microscopes and sewing machines.
