KDEC Kamba
K.D.E.C. Primary School Kamba

Located in the Kambia district, north west of Freetown, this school has 542 students and 14 teachers.  This was the first Kanga school.
The story of KDEC Primary School starts almost 50 years ago.  There was just one book at the school, and it was shared among the students over who could borrow it overnight.

A young 8 year old boy argued with his cousin over who would take the book that day – and we don’t know now of the outcome.  But we do know what happened to that boy.  With diligence, hard work, and perserverance, he continued on to high school.

He struggled with poverty and not having a text book or shoes, but studied hard. His efforts were rewarded with a degree from university!  All from the beginnings of just one book!

Almost 50 years later, this boy is now living in Australia.  His work colleagues joined him in gathering books and sending to his old primary school.   He raised funds, and the school built a small library in 2005.

Now Kanga Schools has partnered with KDEC primary to build a much bigger library.  It has been sent 18 computers, a generator, soccer shirts & boots, many thousands of books.

Educational aids have been provided for the teachers, and software installed on the computers.  The water well has been rebuilt and is now providing clean water, and a salary is being paid for a full time librarian.
