Dandabu
Located in the Pujehun district, the second Kanga school is a primary school at Dandabu.  This area was subject to hostilities when the civil war broke out, the schools were looted, buildings burned down, and subsistence agriculture reduced because of the population displacement.

This school shares land with another primary school and a secondary school.  So the single Kanga school has expanded to include all three schools – with almost 1000 students.

Dandabu was the first school to be partnered in building a library – the community provided the labour and made the mud bricks, Kanga provided the finances required.

Between the three schools, Kanga has sent 26 computers, and more than 10,000 books. What is encouraging is that all three schools share the library, the books, the computers.

As this area does not have electricity available, supply of a generator was essential to utilise the computers.

In 2009, it was agreed that Kanga Schools would provide awards for students of excellence.  Dandabu, with its three schools, received three medals - and the students are shown here on the day they received them in front of the whole school community.

The school reports that “staff use the books from the library, especially when they are lacking enough text books”.
